A Family Night is a great
way to bond over games and laughter.
Family nights can become so engaging
that members look forward to it all
week. Bingo is a cheap and popular game
that works extremely well for groups.
With the advent of the Internet, the
virtual version popularized by
free bingo sites has also caught on.
The conventional format is a
card with a 5x5 matrix filled with 24
random numbers from one to ninety-nine,
and a blank space. Random numbers are
picked out by a caller. The first one to
complete a row or column, or the card
itself wins in the basic version of the
game.
Bingo can be creatively
adapted for a smaller family audience.
If little kids are involved, color
patches or cartoon symbols can be used
instead of numbers on a smaller matrix.
Add an educational twist by filling in
names of places and years in the grid.
The caller can ask questions to which
the player blots out the answer from his
card. Customizable bingo cards are
easily available in the market, and
getting them ready for the big game
could easily be the activity for a prior
family night.
There are versions that work
well for larger groups as well. For
example, a list of fun tasks is given to
each person, and they have to do it in a
limited span of time. Each task on the
list has to be signed by a witness, and
the first player to get all tasks signed
wins. The tasks could include any number
of crazy ideas like mimicry, shaking
hands with ten people, hopping around
the room etc. Your imagination’s the
limit in Family Night bingo.
